Sure, everyone sweats. It’s normal after a hard workout at the gym or a day at the beach. But when sweaty armpit stains appear at work or during a date, it’s just embarrassing. There are even some people who go to great lengths to hide their underarm stains, constantly worrying about what to wear and avoiding social gatherings just to conceal their sweaty situation.
“Underarm sweat was always on my mind. Everything that I did, I’d worry about what I was going to wear. Even at my best friend’s wedding, I was trying to convince her that her bridesmaids’ dresses should be black so it would hide my sweat,” said Allison Benitez, from New Hampshire.
Most people are not aware of available treatment options beyond antiperspirants. Even medications and prescription antiperspirants provide only temporary relief and are largely ineffective. However, there is an in-office procedure available that provides a lasting reduction in underarm sweat.
The miraDry Procedure, cleared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, delivers energy noninvasively to the sweat gland area under the arm, and creates targeted heat to destroy and eliminate the glands. Because sweat glands do not regenerate, results that are seen immediately after the treatment can be expected to last. Two treatments, spaced three months apart are recommended for optimal results. Studies have shown patients treated with the miraDry Procedure experienced an average sweat reduction of 82 percent.
“After the miraDry Procedure, a lot of things changed in my life. I’m not as self-conscious as I used to be and I’m more confident. It’s wonderful,” said Allison.
